I speak from both professional and personal experience. When I sold our personal home a couple years ago, I’ll be honest that I didn’t anticipate the long nights staying up packing and organizing and staging and cleaning. I didn’t realize how much of a struggle it was to keep the house constantly clean and get two kids and a dog out of the house for showings. These were things I knew were important professionally, but it was much harder to do in practice.

But when we used all the proceeds from our sale to pay for our next home down payment of 20%, and we saw that we had profited about $90,000 over the past four years of owning the home, it was all worth it.
